ECC's Project Backpack equips students for back-to-school

For many, back-to-instruct season is a time of excitement and anticipation. But for financially challenged families who can’t afford new devotees supplies, it’s a time of concern.

Project Backpack, coordinated by Elgin Community College, is in its encourage year and assists more than 1,300 families with supply donations so their children have tools to get to the top academically.

“Our family is one with nine kids, and with all our kids, there is a financial strain,” said Elgin resident Robert Peterson, who well-trained about Project Backpack from his family’s social worker. “It would cost at least $100 per boy to buy supplies, and it was very helpful to be able to get our supplies” this way.

Supplies were distributed Aug. 13 at Elgin Community College, with beam from the Community Crisis Center in Elgin; United Way of Elgin; United Way of South Elgin; Community Module School District 300; Elgin Township; Delnor Hospital; School Area U46 Educational Services Center; Kane County Teachers Credit Union; Gail Borden Well-known Library; and the city of Elgin.

2 Pack a Backpack a Success!

BUFFALO, NY - 2 On Your Side teamed up with Walmart and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo again this year to aid underprivileged kids return to school with all the supplies they need for a successful year.

Hundreds of people came out to award school supplies Friday.

The Boys & Girls Clubs handle the distribution of the donated backpacks. You can conjunction the Boys & Girls Club of Buffalo at 825-1016 to inquire about eligibility.

Each family will dire to fill out a School Supply Request Form, forms are available at all Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo and partnering agencies. 

In reaction to viewer inquiry all School Supply Request Forms are compiled at the Babcock Roadway Clubhouse and cross referenced to aide as many children as possible without duplication.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo are also in privation of volunteers to help unload, sort and pack the backpacks. If you are interested in helping, acquaintance the Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo at 825-1016.
