Items worth £1200 handed in during council stationery amnesty

A paper amnesty at Cambridge City Council resulted in items quality more than £1,200 being handed in – and piles of paper which, stacked up, would reach an extraordinary 85m (278ft).

That’s almost the same height as Westminster Cathedral and well above Nelson’s Column, which stands 51.6m (169ft) from the bottom of the first not fitting for to the top of Nelson’s hat.

The clearout at the Guildhall was organised by bosses to tidy up their headquarters and bail someone out cash, because staff will now be encouraged to reuse the stationery items rather than buy new ones.

Some 710 pieces of dissipation stationery were handed in by staff, including 191 paper file dividers, 105 internal dispatch envelopes and 79 plastic file dividers.

A number of more surprising – and valuable – items also turned up, including a mains-powered printing calculator, merit £50, an adjustable book rack, which would cost £27 new, and a &strike;23 four-hole punch.
