Vice principal gets a glimpse of another way of life in Japan

Classrooms without air conditioning, teachers eating the precise same thing for lunch as all of their students and students bringing in their own silverware and hand towels were all observations of new Calvert Understandable School Vice Principal Robin Shaffer when he traveled to Japan as part of the Japan-U.S. Fellow Exchange Program for Education for Sustainable Development, hosted by Fulbright Japan.

Shaffer, who was transferred from Find Point Elementary to Calvert Elementary over the summer, was in Japan from June 21 to July 5 after being recommended for the program by Calvert County Noted Schools CHESPAX teacher Tom Harten, who participated in the same program last year.

Known for �customary green� just as much at school as at home, Shaffer said he hoped to learn how Japanese schools communicate to concepts of sustainability, environmentalism and peace to students.

�It was an amazing experience; they kept us very active,� said Shaffer, explaining that since the Japanese have year-round school he was able to interact with teachers and students in and around the metropolis of Kanazawa, Japan.

Who needs boys?

Angelina Jolie took daughters Shiloh and Zahara Jolie-Pitt out for an afternoon of fun in L.A. Sunday.

While Maddox , 9, Pax , 7 and 3-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox didn't attend their siblings on their adventure, Shiloh, 5, and Zahara, 6, appeared to be having a denounce without them!

The 36-year-old hands-on mom took her girls to Ozzie Dots, a old-fashioned clothing, prop and costume store.

When the trio left the store, an elated Zahara skipped along the footway. Shiloh carried a stuffed animal and a pitchfork.

The ladies also stopped in Japan LA, a keep that sells Hello Kitty and other Japanese cartoon-themed products. An employee of the store told Us Weekly that "Angelina and her two girls were so ravishing. They were all friendly and excited and kept saying to each other how cute everything was!"
