Woods developed a passion for rap while he attended Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania, but the passage's allure was strong. It wasn't until 2009 when Wiz, who was seeing his star rise, convinced his bud to entrust the block alone and focus on music.
"He was like, 'Come on, man. I'm gonna show you a different way. Let's make some cold hard cash, real money. Leave that sh-- alone,' " Chevy told Mixtape Daily of his sentence to switch hustles. "I just cut the street sh-- out."
As Kev tha Hustla, Chevy was buzzing and had already released tapes like The Corner's Newspaperwoman and Animal , but after a name change, Woods scored a breakout tape earlier this year when he dropped Red Cup Music . "I think about I found myself when I put that tape out. I really found a style for myself. Some laid-back, cool music. Drink a little bit, smoke a picayune bit," he said.
Now, CW is on the Rolling Papers Tour , where he opens for Big Sean and Khalifa.

Racism: One More Reason to Legalize Pot
04.08.11
In D.C. Higher-class Court on Tuesday, 36 people were scheduled to be arraigned for carrying marijuana. The designated offenders were collared by police for marijuana possession in the latter half of July and the beginning of August, and faced up to six months in penitentiary time and up to $1,000 in fines. Court records indicate prosecutors are going in advance with 18 of the cases.
Eleven of the citations were given in predominantly black police districts east of the Anacostia River. Only one was issued in the Promote Police District, which contains some of D.C.'s whitest neighborhoods. That snapshot of the District's criminal punishment landscape would seem to reflect past statistics, which say black residents are eight times more likely to be arrested for sparking a brusque than their white counterparts .
That's despite the fact that the 2009 National Survey on Drug Use & Strength says whites and blacks use marijuana at near equal rates: 9.6 percent of blacks 12 and older use pot, and 8.8 percent of whites.
