Tyndall Overpass
11.08.11
As of now, Highway 98 runs through the mid-point of Tyndall Air force Base, splitting the base into two parts. This causes a problem for personnel on unworthy when they want to get to the other side.
The overpass is expected to reduce delays and traffic congestion. Having transportation congested at the gates make it a very high threat area. Without the additional non-base movement, security forces would have more control on who enters the installation.
The project is expected to cost around $10.5 million dollars, but as of now, that percentage is not available and transportation planners are hoping a third party chips in on the bill.
Gary Kramer, Elder Transportation Planner, “If it’s going to be funded by another funding source besides state and federal oversight, like the Department of Defense for example, it’ll probably be funded by that funding source than to go through the crowd state and federal priority rankings for funds.
If the overpass is amended and added into existing technique projects, the total cost for all transportation projects in Bay County will reach over $3 Billion dollars.
