Antique School Desk?

I am trying to find out the era for a school desk. Does anyone know a link or sight where I can find out the era, or even the history on school desks?
It is a desk for younger school children with a folding bench in the front and the desk in the back, they lined up behind each other.

try this link

it leads you to different kinds of desks, hopefully the desk you are looking for is on here.

I want to redo an old child's desk. Can you help?

Ok. I have a small child's school desk. It is made of metal and the seat and back is made of wood. I don't know how the wood was made but it looks to be thin layers bent into the current shape and glued into place. The back of the seat is peeling off on the outside layers and I would like to recreate this. I have read some on steaming or soaking, which I hope to try.

My first issue is, what can I use to rig these new layers into the same shape as the previous wood?

My second problem is replacing the seat. They are currently held in place with rivets. I like the look that it has with rivets through wood. I've read up on the rivets a little bit too and from what I can tell, they are called something like a mate rivet. Both sides look like a button cap.

Is this a relatively simple task, replacing a rivet?

Thanks in advance.

1, Your seat back is made from a lamination process. Strips of wood are coated with glue, and then pressed into a form. The drying process of the glue is accelerated by RF signals from the machine. A HUGE MICROWAVE for wood laminating. Before you try to steam and bend,,, look at the laminations and see if you can get some water and Gorilla Glue in the cracks. If so,,, make up some disposable clamps by cutting the curve into some scrap wood, a front and back,,, so a standard set of bar clamps will pull the layers together. Glue, let dry, sand,,, finsih.

2. Rivots,,, drill to remove. Replace with stove bolts as suggested, or with more rivots. Contact your local hardware store, to look for rivots or hide away type fasteners. If you can't find any, go with the stove bolts, but cut them and file them to a length so that you can screw them down with a lock washer and a cap nut. The reason rivots were used to start with, was to keep sharp edges out from under the desk.

Good luck.

My favorite book as a child was about this moose who had a first day of school. Anyone have any clue?

I can barely remember a detail other than, I think he wore a jersey, and may not have fit into his school desk and broke it.
I am 28 just so you know the time frame it would have been popular in. Eaarly 80s.

OK was it Morris goes to school,Or Morris the moose they both have to do with him going to school,i love it and Danny the dinosaur and Sammy the seal, those are the I can read series.

Admin to issue education waivers

“Our oversight has been working on plans to provide more flexibility. The president has directed us to proceed with those plans.”

The declaration comes months after President Barack Obama called on Congress to deliver legislation to his desk by September that unwavering the Bush-era law. But as the calendar moves closer to Obama’s deadline, the House and Senate have moved on discriminate paths at a pace the White House says is not nearly fast enough.

Meanwhile, states and neighbourhood administrators are clamoring to the Department of Education for relief from federal mandates — and the sanctions that warn to punish schools for not meeting the law’s requirements.

“I cannot overemphasize how loud the hissing is for us to do something now,” said Education Secretary Arne Duncan. “Our job, simply put, is to undergo reform at the state and local level. We need to get out of the way wherever we can.”

Heights Families Embark on a Grand World Tour

Children and their parents did not have to trekking to far to take a Grand World Tour Friday night as the Hasbrouck Heights Public Library was transformed to earmarks of destinations around the world for its annual summer bash family event.

There was something for everyone as both young and old enjoyed snacks from sundry cultures such as hummus with pita, pizza, Chinese noodles along with music, dancing, Caribbean whisker braiding, movies and more. Different parts of the library were decorated to represent areas around the humankind and children were given ‘passports’ to take around to the various areas to get stamps to pull down prizes.

The children visited far away places such as Australia, Asia, the Caribbean Watering-hole, the European piazza, Times Square, the United Nations and even Antartica which is where two movies, “Rio” and “Rango” were shown throughout the evensong. In the children’s activity room across from the circulation desk, youngsters and teens grabbed the microphone and sang karaoke to their favorite songs.
